WLFS Help Me Lose 25 lbs and Push Beyond What I Could Do On My Own

By Anita Kestelanita

I started working out with Walter Lewis in the middle of November, 2015.  I had been slacking off on how often and how hard I worked out, and had gotten back up to the highest weight I had been in the past (about 13 years ago).   I remember thinking that it’s probably not a good strategy in starting a fitness class just before Thanksgiving, with the holiday season coming up, followed by a lot of family birthday celebrations at the beginning of the year.  I am happy to say that I was wrong.  While I typically do less, eat more, and gain about 5 lbs in the process during that time, between Nov and February, I lost 7 lbs and over 2 inches in my waist.  I was really pleased with that progress and loved that my clothes were fitting better, too!  While I would have found it easy to slip into my old habits, Walter kept me on track, challenging me to stick with it and to do more than I would have challenged myself to do.  That’s what I have found to be the biggest help and the main reason that I enjoy working with Walter.  He makes me push beyond what I would do on my own.  I find it too easy to not push myself when I’m working out on my own and get complacent, rationalizing that just showing up at the gym and being on the treadmill or doing a less than strenuous workout is enough.  Walter’s approach is that if you can accomplish that much, you can do a little more to take it further.  And he’s right!  I always can.  Now, 8 months later, and 25 lbs. lighter, I appreciate Walter’s persistent, tough encouragement (always with a smile) all the more, and as I approach reaching my goal of losing 30 lbs., and dropping 2-3 sizes in my clothes, I am very thankful for all the hard work and effort he has encouraged me to take on and the changes it has brought about.  I have stuck with it, and signed up for his classes one after another since that first class in November and push myself more now outside of class.  I enjoy the small group approach and the women in the classes who I share my experiences with.  While I originally signed up for a winter class with Walter, he is now part of my base-line for what it takes to reach my fitness goals and in maintaining or exceeding that level once I’m there.
