In 2016, employers that offer workplace wellness programs are more popular than ever! Having a workplace
wellness program can make the difference in keeping talented and productive employees and hiring the most desirable ones. There is a tremendous benefit for employers to have a workplace wellness program. It helps companies cut health care costs and improve overall employee satisfaction with their employer. And it’s been proven that employees who participate in the company’s wellness program are more satisfied with their jobs. In 2015, close to half of the 1,977 business decision-makers surveyed for the fifth annual Aflac WorkForces Report said their companies sponsor workplace wellness programs, that number went up a whopping 30 percent from what was reported in 2012. According to the 2012 Employee Benefit Survey by the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), the percentage of companies who offered health and lifestyle coaching increased from 33 percent in 2008 to 45 percent in 2012.
Last week, I was honored to speak at the Society of Human Resources Management Star coffee meeting. I shared stories and fun workout memories from the fitness challenges held with employees of their company since 2012. During my talk, I congratulated and recognized three winners of SHRM’s step challenge who were also active participants of my fitness challenge class. There were approximately 250 employees in attendance including department heads and employees via teleconference from China, Dubai, and India.
The presentation ended with the grand reveal of my new SHRM Fitness Challenge video. Click here to see the Video.
